Eco-Friendliness at The Pod Lab

Coffee Pods are super convenient, it’s why so many Australians love them, however given the sheer volume consumed everyday it’s important we consider the impact they can have on our environment.

At The Pod Lab, we only use 100% Biodegradable and Compostable ‘Biocap’ capsules which we’ve sourced from a local supplier here in Australia.

Biocap biodegradable capsules are a composite material obtained by transforming cereal plants to replace petro-chemical based plastics making them 100% bio-sourced and 100% biodegradable.  The Biocaps are equally as effective as a regular plastic or aluminium pod used by other producers, the key difference is that they take months to compost rather than hundreds of years.

BioCaps are:

  • 100% bio-based
  • 100% biodegradable
  • 100% compostable
  • Food contact approved
  • Nespresso machine compatible

So all this means that you can simply throw away your pods with your regular rubbish, as they will completely biodegrade.  Alternatively, you can pop them in your compost at home and let the microbes have a party*!

*Rates of home composting may vary.
